a user noticed that cut-and-paste of the galdef parameters does not work
since the character spacing is lost (and is essential for galprop reading)
I put the ascii originals of the galdef files of optimized and conventional models on
http://www.mpe.mpg.de/~aws/propagate.html
and will put the datasets too on request.

NB to run under the current v50p add the parameters bremss=1 and IC_isotropic=1
(see below)

First, thanks for making this galdef file publicly available.

I have two questions about it:

1) The parameters 'bremss' and 'IC_isotropic' do not appear in this galdef file. By default the public version of the code (v50p) will thus produce neither bremsstrahlung nor inverse compton emissivities and skymaps. Yet Fig.4 of the Abdo et al. ApJL paper shows bremsstrahlung and inverse compton curves. Perhaps bremsstrahlung and ic are calculated by default in version 49? Or is there some reason for not calculating them?

2) This galdef file makes use of a different interstellar radiation field dataset (RFComposite5kpcJuly112005.fits) than the one that is included in the public version 50p (MilkyWay_DR0.5_DZ0.1_DPHI10_RMAX20_ZMAX5_galprop_format.fits). Are there siginificant differences between the two? Perhaps RFComposite5kpcJuly112005.fits is a more up-to-date model? If so, is it also publicly available?

Hi Michael,
A pleasure to make it available!

1, The parameters 'bremss' and 'IC_isotropic' are actually obsolete. If gamma_rays=1, all processes are included. The switches pi0_decay etc then control details of the computation.
SEE CORRECTION BELOW
NB IC_anisotropic is not yet implemented in this version (or takes forever).

2. Actually the ISRF provided publicly is more up-to-date than the one in this galdef file.
The differences should not be noticeable.

Forgive the nitpicking, but in v50p bremsstrahlung and inverse compton are only calculated if parameters 'bremss' and 'IC_isotropic' are nonzero.

From Galprop.cc:

Code:
   if(galdef.bremss)                               // IMOS20060420
     {
       if (  gen_bremss_emiss()          !=0)  return 1;
       if (store_bremss_emiss()          !=0)  return 1;
       if (  gen_bremss_skymap        () !=0)  return 1;
       if (store_bremss_skymap        () !=0)  return 1;

Code:
   if(galdef.IC_isotropic+galdef.IC_anisotropic) // IMOS20060420
     {
       if (               gen_IC_emiss() !=0)  return 1;
       if (               gen_IC_skymap()!=0)  return 1;
       if (store_IC_skymap("isotropic")!=0)  return 1;

nitpicking rewarded!
you are right, in v49 those parameters were not yet in, they were added in v50.
They should be added to run with v50p.
Thanks for pointing this out !

You are right, I added these parameters to v50p.
